The book is part of a series on the history and conservation issues related to Japanese lacquer and the wares decorated with it. The series is aimed at conservators, curators of collections and exhibitions, and collectors.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Katarzyna Dróżdż currently works at the National Museum in Poznań, employed as a conservation assistant in the Conservation Studio of Ethnographic Monuments. She is actively involved in the prestigious project of conservation of the Amida Buddha statue, which is part of the collection of the National Museum in Poznań. She graduated from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, where she completed two majors: Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art (specialisation: conservation of painting and polychrome wooden sculpture) and Painting (specialisation: easel painting).

Winner of the Leonard Torwirt Prize, awarded for outstanding achievements in theoretical and research thesis and conservation and restoration work at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of York. Her diploma thesis dealt with the conservation of a Japanese export secretary from the Meiji era, richly decorated with lacquer and panels with oil relief landscapes. In addition, she completed a project for the conservation of a set of Japanese Yokohama Shashin export fans.

She defended her diploma in easel painting (main specialisation) and artistic glass (complementary specialisation) in 2020. The series of paintings created as part of this degree was honoured at the exhibition “DYPLOM 2020″ at the Centre for Contemporary Art in Toruń (2021).
